Day 3: The Theory

So, we have 8 shots in 15.9 seconds in this particular clip. It's really pretty straight forward, with the one really cool shot. Way less complicated than the 12 effects heavy shots I did for Star Wars Uncut. Now, it would be easy enough to do the 7 Luke/Han shots. But why should I? Why shouldn't I replace those 7 shots with tauntaun opening shots? Well, this is Empire Uncut; there is no reason I can't do that. People were more enslaved to doing each shot than almost anything else the first time around. There were a few things that didn't for effect (the CNN setup, the AIM conversations, etc.), but that was mostly it. Mine will technically be for effect too, and repeating a shot setup (more or less). But I see no reason not to proceed. Opening and closing will be in keeping to preserve continity per the rules. But Uncut is all about taking things to signify the things that were in Star Wars. This will explore what signifies one shot in more detail, at the expense of shots that signify little.

"Our position is correct, except...no, Alderaan"

Disappointingly (or perhaps more accurately, disgustingly) the individual scenes from Star Wars Uncut have disappeared from the Star Wars Uncut site. Instead, there's a link to the Star Wars Uncut Special Edition full movie file. This is especially irritating for me because while my scene was in the official play through on the site originally (it had more votes than the other scene that was completed; when you autoplayed, my scene was in the movie), it was not in the Special Edition (so, the SE of Uncut is much like the SE of the actual movies). So the work of most of the people (there were two versions of almost every scene, and more than two of others, right?) has just disappeared from the Star Wars Uncut site. But not from the internet; we all had to upload to Vimeo, so the scenes should still mostly be there. Here's mine: http://vimeo.com/6332199

(Also, here's a rough working cut: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oFjtLVxPiY )

Uncut has had a bad habit of being grindingly opaque, providing minimal updates since before the initial project was finished. Let's hope they're just shaking out the bugs on the current site and the many great scenes that currently can't be seen will make their way back to the official site.

Day 1

Empire Uncut, the obvious successor to Star Wars Uncut, is a go. Those of us involved in Star Wars Uncut get an early start. They've named the chunk I took  (it's 51 in numbering, but in downloaded movie bit, it's labeled 50) "Han Finds Luke a Blanket".
T-minus 29 days to total destruction.
